This role is a full-time opportunity to join the Local Peoples team permanently, with your first project supporting the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR). You will work within a high-performing Agile delivery environment, contributing to the development of large-scale digital solutions that support Australians in accessing quality skills, training, and employment services.
Beyond this project, you will have the opportunity to contribute to a range of impactful digital transformation initiatives across the Australian Government, helping deliver modern, accessible, and user-focused technology solutions.
About the first project:
The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer (Mobile App Developer) to support the delivery of high-profile software development projects. The successful candidate will work on the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of enterprise mobile applications and integrated systems, leveraging modern technologies and development practices.
You will be part of a collaborative Agile team responsible for delivering secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions in a fast-paced and complex environment.
Responsibilities:
Design, develop, test, and deploy mobile applications for iOS and Android platforms.
Participate in requirements gathering, analysis, and solution design activities.
Collaborate with architects, developers, testers, business analysts, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions.
Develop clean, maintainable, scalable, and secure code aligned with departmental standards and best practices.
Build and integrate RESTful APIs and backend services.
Support the maintenance, enhancement, and optimisation of existing applications and systems.
Develop and maintain technical documentation throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
Contribute to problem-solving activities and identify innovative technical solutions.
Support project delivery through effective time management, planning, and collaboration.
Qualifications:
Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline (or equivalent industry experience).
Extensive experience developing enterprise-grade mobile applications.
Strong experience working in Agile software development environments.
Demonstrated experience delivering solutions within complex enterprise or government environments.
Experience working across the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Essential Criteria:
Demonstrated industry-based knowledge and experience in developing and delivering mobile applications using a range of the following technologies:
Native iOS using Swift and SwiftUI
Native Android using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
Android/iOS development
Microsoft Web API / REST Architecture
SQL / Entity Framework
.NET
Demonstrated application development experience working on high-volume transactional systems and/or complex integrated systems.
Demonstrated ability to effectively use communication and negotiation skills to manage relationships in a challenging IT environment.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to develop innovative solutions.
Experience working in Agile software development environments and using Agile development toolsets.
Demonstrated project delivery support skills, including excellent time management, attention to detail, flexibility, and resilience within demanding team environments.
Desirable Criteria:
Demonstrated ability to lead the architecture and design of mobile applications, making strategic decisions that deliver scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions aligned with organisational standards and enterprise architecture.
Residency and Clearance
Must have Baseline Clearance or be able to obtain one.
Australian Citizen.

Canberra, ACT.
Onsite, full-time (40 hours per week).
Flexible working arrangements may be considered on a case-by-case basis in line with business requirements.
